The disastrously
troubled release of SimCity (2013) was not as crucial a failure for EA and
Maxis as the release of The Sims 4 was. It took 5 years for The Sims Studio to
come up with the much anticipated successor to its highest selling game of all
time, The Sims 3, but, the outcome was harmlessly disappointing. While no one
was expecting The Sims 4 to be as rich and imaginative as the kind of game that
its predecessor had become in last 5 years, the decision by Maxis to remove toddlers
and swimming pools from the base game did not help promote their efforts.
However EA
and Maxis, unlike their treatment of The SimCity, had a different plan which
required “..delivering on the vision set out for The Sims 4 required focus.” Despite
late addition of swimming pools and other features with regular patches the path
that Maxis had set for the game didn’t see any light until the announcement of
first expansion pack Get to Work. Maxis, for the first time since the release in
September, stopped covering the tracks and started expanding the new Sims 4 eco
system.
The work at
The Sims Studio and constant improvement of the game, which was much invisible
and mundane up till now, can be seen in the new Perfect Patio stuff pack and
Spa Day game pack. Soon after the release of Luxury Party stuff pack EA
announced Perfect Patio stuff pack. The glamorously intimate hot tubs which came
with The Sims 3: Late Night expansion have been added back along with a new
grill and other similar objects that make up a perfect patio for your wealthy Sims.
In addition
to that in the new monthly update Maxis has added back half walls, which aren’t
exactly half this time, and locked doors (Finally!), which the simmers had been
demanding since Get to Work expansion. The update is available for free and can
be downloaded right now.
Not enough? Do not worry.
“After getting to work in April, we figured your Sims could use even more Zen – and what’s more relaxing than a luxurious spa?” – Perfect Patio announcement.
Yes, a Spa. Remember
the nice Sauna from The Sims 2? Well it is making a return this month. The new
game pack will also include mud bath, ‘a safer form of relaxation’; Meditation,
‘Talk about Zen’, Yoga and Massages. But if you are still not satisfied you can
always do the great olden WooHoo, this time in Sauna. After all if The Sims wants
to be loved again it won’t stop your Sims from making some.
